Introduction

The tragic event that occurred between March 8 and 9, 1945, when twenty-one partisans from the “Benvenuto Zoppis” detachment belonging to the 109th Brigade of the XIIth Garibaldi Division were transferred from Santhià to Salussola, then in the province of Vercelli, where they were tortured and twenty of them shot by the fascist militia of the 115th “Montebello” battalion, is still painfully identifiable for Salussola today, configuring itself as one of the most serious massacres to have occurred in the Biella area on the dawn of the Liberation.
