"In the first phase of this research, carried out since 2011, I had concentrated on one thing, that is, what remains, the disorientation of people (who never pose) in front of thecontemporary art.
There's still a long way to go. The audience's blank stares reveal their inability to see and understand the art being imposed/proposed on us.
Secondly, it often seems that people go to museums to be able to say "I've been there too", and removing the works is a bit like lifting the "veil of Maya" of the trivialisation of their fruition, and the museums emerge almost stripped bare.
Compared to the previous phase of the project, in Blinding Plan / The Cathedral, I tried to take the research a step further, proceeding from an intuition, a juxtaposition.
Once stripped of their works of art, the museums seemed like immense cathedrals to me.
If it's true that there is no more art, perhaps it's a sign that there is no more God?
Gothic cathedrals were oriented towards the east, to intercept and celebrate the rising sun.
Compared to them, museums look like contemporary cathedrals that have lost their bearings – as if culture no longer has a direction.
I believe that museums are truly cathedrals: they are among the few places where citizens can still celebrate being together, gathering, concentrating, contemplating, ascending to something brighter.
And with this research I tried to tell it.
I have taken and filmed in various contemporary art museums in Italy (MAXXI, MACRO) and abroad (MOMA, MACBA, etc.)
This video was made at the MACBA in Barcelona. "
