Bulli & Pupe, a sentimental history of the 50s (excerpt) A film byChiara Ronchini, Steve Della Casa

A journey through post-World War II Italy, when the young people who had lived helplessly through the horrors of the conflict began to plan a new future. Between dances and songs, between age-old traditions and sudden changes, the images from the archives are counterpointed by the analyses that the most lucid intellectuals were already proposing while all this was happening.

A journey through Italy from the aftermath of the Second World War to the dawn of the 1960s, when the young people who had lived helplessly through the horrors of the conflict began to plan a new future, full of hope but also full of contradictions, which would explode later.
Between dances and songs, between secular traditions and sudden changes, the film of the country that begins to become what we still know today, with its extraordinary feats and its original sins. A country that in a handful of years experienced a change as it had not lived for centuries, in a story woven of magical archive images and some symbolic films, counterpointed with the analysis that the most lucid intellectuals were already proposing while all this was happening.
