His is not just a personal protest, but a political battle against Article 41 bis and life imprisonment without parole in general, a battle he declares he will continue in a different form if these provisions are revoked, and which, if not, he will pursue to the extreme consequences.
Alfredo Cospito and Anna Beniamino were accused of participating in and organizing a series of attacks in Italy using crude explosives in the early 2000s. These attacks resulted in minor damage and no deaths or injuries. Their participation in these attacks has never been directly and convincingly proven, nor have they ever claimed responsibility.
For these acts, however, they were initially sentenced to 15 years in prison for the crime of "common massacre," precisely because it was a massacre, yes, but without victims or injuries... But the crime was later further classified by the Supreme Court as "massacre against State security," one of the most serious crimes in the Penal Code, which carries a fixed penalty of life imprisonment.
Article 41bis, also known as "hard prison," a particularly harsh regime created to combat mafias in 1992 and extended to terrorist organizations in the 2000s, is a regime whose constitutionality, the methods of its application, and its extension to so-called terrorist organizations have been raised by numerous jurists with significant doubts.
Alfredo Cospito is the first and only anarchist to have such detention measures applied in Italy.
The documentary attempts to reconstruct the events surrounding Alfredo Cospito's hunger strike, a battle against the Italian state, a battle whose disproportionate forces and potential outcomes are evident to all, amidst the almost total indifference of Italian institutions.
To date, Alfredo has lost 40 kilos and is getting dangerously close to being a skeleton.
