The wall you see at first is tall and grey, covered in paintings, writings and graffiti…

From a car I pulled up alongside him and filmed him, then, in Bethlehem, crossing this unreal border, entering walkways with bars, turnstiles and other metal structures that were increasingly imposing, increasingly threatening.

The camera is hidden. It's almost impossible to film in Erez. The structure is enormous.

The walkways, wide and deserted, never end.

The wall, now gray and distant, now close and painted dusty pink, looms.

Everywhere there are fences, barbed wire, grilles, and railings, up to a point where tattered sheets and torn concrete speak of a recent explosion.

Then more rubble, debris, unrecognizable remains of buildings... and, finally,... the Gaza Strip, the houses, the cars, the inhabitants...

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
The video isn't a metaphor; it shows real images of a true story, addressing a contemporary issue, one of the most pressing and urgent to resolve. It addresses the issue of the wall built by the Israelis and seeks to further denounce it. I edited it without much intervention, using images captured primarily during the crossing of Erez. These contrast in rhythm and structure, but, I hope, adequately convey the alienating atmosphere of the situation. No spoken dialogue was included (neither captured live nor added later), only sounds recorded during the journey or derived from them, and music composed by the group Checkpoint 303, who works from real sounds to reconstruct the soundscapes of the Middle East through rhythmic transcription.
