Covid-19 has disrupted the lives of younger generations in recent months, but at the same time has rekindled attention to their compulsive needs for clothing.
After a long sleep, Daedalus awakens a prisoner in the labyrinth he built himself, entangled with Ariadne in a red thread with which the Minotaur binds people to himself. Grieving the loss of his son Icarus, Daedalus decides to search for him in the contemporary world dominated by brands and the unbridled consumption of clothing.
Along with him, a group of fashion students reflect on what lies behind the glittering windows of clothing chains: a ruthless production logic built on a global scale on the erosion of labor rights, as well as the failure to protect the environment and health. The students find themselves in an old factory, also entangled in the red thread, held hostage by the Minotaur, from whom they try to free themselves by flapping blackened wings, fashioned from old, worn-out clothes.
Accompanied by the testimony of experts in the field, garment workers, and human rights activists, we descend into the underworld of a phenomenon where unspeakable tragedies like the Rana Plaza collapse and daily alienations like those experienced by those who work in retail are unfolding.
Will Daedalus be able to rediscover his Icarus amidst the rubble of the fashion system? Will future designers be able to spread their rag wings to escape the Minotaur and leave behind the labyrinth of turbo-consumption? Is it still possible in this world to rediscover the taste of rebellion? Through testimonies, alternating with the work in progress of the exhibition resulting from the educational project #FashionReverse curated by Fair in collaboration with hòferlabproject, the documentary conveys the spirit of the journey between art and activism, which involved young people across the peninsula in a collective reflection on the concept of transparency and human rights in fast fashion.
