The last tape
Introduction
Loosely based on Beckett's Krapp's Last Tape, it is the reflection of a lonely character grappling with his past. Images from television and an impossible program "about the difficulty of being a communist" lead him on this journey of memory, exploring personal and political stories.
Synopsis
"Cinema is the only art form that 'films death at work.' The person being filmed is aging and will die. Therefore, it films a moment of death at work." (A. Ceste)
The last tape This is perhaps one of Armando Ceste's most complex works, rich in references, not only from the work of Samuel Beckett, but also from the writings of Rossana Rossanda and Jean-Luc Godard, and from various films and television programs. A stark contrast emerges between the images broadcast on television and the director's most beloved films. We see excerpts from news programs, variety shows, and pornographic films juxtaposed with sequences from works by Lang, Murnau, Godard, Coppola, Ceste himself, and the Collettivo Cinema Militante.
