On March 6, 2019, Marco Mathieu turns 55. Until July 13, 2017, his temperament, curiosity, sense of humor, and passion for writing, music, and travel drove him onward at breakneck speed; it seemed he lived five years a year. Then everything stopped. Now our friend is a prisoner of an inert body; of all the things in the world, he cannot do the one thing dearest to him: communicate. We can, and we have both the desire and the duty to do so, each with our own tools. They are sounds, images, words, projects. We do not believe in miracles, nor do we know resignation. The music, the graphics, the texts collected here, and the initiatives that will follow are small signs of human resistance, without claiming to be lofty messages, much less to initiate beatification proceedings for a man we love also for the healthy limitations he, like all of us, carries with him. The Negations, then the reportages, the books, the National Writers' Association, the professional responsibilities. The Pellice Valley, Turin, Milan, Rome, the world. Who knows where you are now, Marco. We know where we are, though: next to you, sitting in a rickety van looking for an open bar.
