December 2022. After a year of construction, the new archive of the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona is open to the public. The documentary draws on this intimate and imperceptible movement to reflect on the nature of architecture and art.
This story emerges from the friendship of two men. An intimate, respectful, and exclusive friendship, cultivated for over 50 years.
Their empathy is easily explained: both were born in Barcelona, a city full of hope and soon outlawed by the arrival of Franco's regime.
They soon gained international recognition without ever giving up their principles, and now, in the late 60s, they returned to their homeland to leave a lasting mark as revered masters.
Their project is forward-looking, unique and idealistic, simultaneously a gesture of revenge and reconciliation.
“This building is the synthesis of all the experiments of these years,” recalls Sert.
It's called CEAC, the Contemporary Art Study Center. Catalonia's first public collection of contemporary art opened its doors on June 10, 1975.
Joan Miró is its inspiration and main sponsor, together with his friend Joan Prat.
Josep Lluís Sert is the hands-on architect who brings their vision to life.
