Miss Effe
Introduction
Turin, September 1980. Emma Martano, from a working-class family of southern Italian origins, has an excellent future ahead of her, already having a job in the IT sector of Fiat.
Synopsis
However, the wave of strikes and clashes between the working class and Fiat management to prevent the layoffs of fifteen thousand employees will lead Emma to experience work and romantic experiences that will make her question her plans.
Every family has its winning horse. The Martanos, a working-class family of southern Italian origins who moved to Turin, have Emma. Emma works at Fiat in a new sector, IT.
She worked hard since she was little to erase her origins and climb back up the slope.
Now she's about to graduate with a degree in mathematics and is about to marry Silvio, a mature, widowed Turin company executive with a daughter. But something suddenly, confusingly, pulls her downward.
It's September 1980, and Fiat announces it will lay off fifteen thousand workers. A long, bitter strike begins, lasting 37 days. In the climate of unrelenting conflict between the company and the working class, Emma is increasingly drawn to a young militant who works on the presses, Sergio.
And throughout the conflict, the girl experiences an intense but brief love affair that takes away the meaning of her very difficult social climb and pushes her to break with her family, to break with the man who wants to marry her.
But it is difficult to find the thread of one's destiny when the world around us is seething, conflict splits communities, families and overwhelms individuals, an era ends erasing hopes, another begins without promising, for most, anything good.
In a few days Emma will dramatically experience the most important experience of her life.
