Kobanê had been besieged by ISIS in September 2014 and its citizens, united in People and Women's Defense Units (YPG and YPJ) since the war in Syria began, in 2011, fought bravely for 4 months and managed to free their city under the eyes of the whole world, absolutely terrorized by the Islamic State.
To the entire world these Kurdish women and men and the city of Kobanê became the symbol of the liberation from the darkness of the Islamic State.
Rhodes Hesen and Perwin Hemo were married for 20 days when, on 25th of June 2015, five months after Kobanê had been liberated they were killed by ISIS mercenaries inside their house together with 9 other members of Rodi's family. In total that day, ISIS killed 388 people.
Rodi and Perwin had dreamed, after Kobanê was liberated, of opening a Kurdish library in the ground floor of the Hesen family's house.
The Hesen family had already lost one girl, Shirin, in 2013. She had gone to the front to defend her city, and the father of the family who was killed when a bomb exploded in November 2013.
The three survivors of the family, Rodi's brother Ednan and sisters Cihan and Berivan, decided to open their family house again and to make Rodi and Perwin's dream come true.
Today the Rodi u Perwin Library is a reference point for everybody wanting to read in Kurdish. It is a place where people meet for conferences and readings, video screenings and music. A place where children are taught to love books and reading, but also art.

The young couple made up of Rodi Hesen and Perwin Hemo only took 20 days at home when, on June 25th 2015 (five months after the liberation of Kobanê), they were victims of a punishment raid by ISIS from Turkish territory, and they were left to cry blood in their own home together with others 7 members of the Rhodes family.
The dream of Rhodes and Perwin was to open a library in his family home following the liberation of Kobanê.
The Hesen family lost a daughter in 2013, Shirin, fighting in front, and the family's father in the explosion of a bomb planted by ISIS in 2013.
The three living brothers Ednan, Cihan and Berivan, decide to make the dream of their respective families come true. The Rodi and Perwin Library, located in the family home, is now a reference point for Kurdish culture, a meeting place and a meeting place for books, music and audiovisuals, where children learn to love books, reading and art.
