Rodi Hesen and Perwin Hemo dreamed of opening a Kurdish cultural library on the first floor of their family home. The young couple, just 20 days into their marriage, are murdered in cold blood along with nine other members of their family in an Islamic State raid that killed 388 people. Rodi's three surviving siblings, Ednan and his sisters Cihan and Berivan, decide to make Rodi and Perwin's dream come true.

La joven pareja, con apenas 20 días de casados, es asesinada sangre fría junto a otros 9 integrantes de su familia en una incursión del Estado Islámico, que causó la muerte de 388 personas. Kobanê had been besieged by ISIS in September 2014 and its citizens, united in People and Women’s Defense Units (YPG and YPJ) since the war in Syria began, in 2011, fought bravely for 4 months and managed to free their city under the eyes of the whole world, absolutely terrorized by the Islamic State.

To the entire world these Kurdish women and men and the city of Kobanê became the symbol of the liberation from the darkness of the Islamic State.

Rodi Hesen and Perwin Hemo were married for 20 days when, on 25th of June 2015, five months after Kobanê had been liberated were killed by ISIS mercenaries inside their house together with other 9 members of Rodi’s family. In total that day, ISIS killed 388 people.

Rodi and Perwin had dreamed, after Kobanê was liberated, of opening a Kurdish library in the ground floor of the Hesen family’s house.

The Hesen family had already lost one girl, Shirin, in 2013. She had gone to the front to defend her city, and the father of the family who was killed when a bomb exploded in November 2013.

The three survivors of the family, Rodi’s brother Ednan and sisters Cihan and Berivan, decided to open their family house again and to make Rodi and Perwin’s dream come true.

Today the Rodi u Perwin Library is a reference point for everybody wanting to read in Kurdish. It is a place where people meet for conferences and readings, video screenings and music. A place where children are taught to love books and reading, but also art.

<i>Septiembre del 2014, Kobanê ha sido sido sitiada por el ISIS y muchos de sus habitantes, integrados en las Unidades de Defensa de las Personas y las Mujeres (YPG e YPJ) desde en inicio de la guerra en Siria (2011), luchan durante 4 largos meses hasta lograr liberar su ciudad. Los medios transmiten al mundo en directo la heroica resistencia. Los hombre y mujeres que defendieron su ciudad se convirtieron en símbolo de la tenacidad y la victoria ante el terror del Estado Islámico.

La joven pareja compuesta por Rodi Hesen y Perwin Hemo apenas lleva 20 días de casados cuando, el 25 de junio del 2015 (cinco meses después de la liberación de Kobanê), son victimas de una razzia de castigo del ISIS desde territorio turco, y son asesinados a sangre fría en su propia casa junto con otros 7 miembros de la familia de Rodi.

El sueño de Rodi y Perwin era abrir una biblioteca en su casa familiar tras la liberación de Kobanê.

La familia Hesen ya había perdido una hija en el 2013, Shirin, luchando en el frente, y al padre de la familia en la explosión de un coche bomba colocado por el ISIS en el 2013.

Los tres hermanos sobrevivientes Ednan, Cihan y Berivan, deciden hacer realidad el sueño de los recién casados. La Biblioteca Rodi y Perwin, situada en la casa familiar, es hoy un punto de referencia de la cultura kurda, un lugar de reunión y encuentro en torno a los libros, la música y los audiovisuales, donde los niños aprenden a amar los libros, la lectura y el arte.</i>
