Director's Statement
Sometimes the invisible things that surround us invisibly become more powerful than what is visible.
These elements that emanate from nature, from the earth, or are carried by the wind can generate sensations and even memories of presences, of times gone by, of scents, of emotions... that perhaps we don't see, but we certainly feel.
In this film I wanted to explore our great capacity to feel what we cannot capture with our eyes, but is visible only through our other senses.
Alba (Alba Arias, 13 years old) has a pure and intuitive sensitivity, as well as an impatient and curious gaze.
She approaches the world around her, seeking what she doesn't understand and isn't clearly revealed. This search also takes place in a very special place, the green and isolated mountains of O Courel, a mountainous region in inland Galicia (Spain).
Its people coexist with the direct assault of nature, the harsh winter, depopulation, and oblivion. However, they also have a powerful weapon: their belief that
death is not the end but a transition.
This way of understanding life and death as elements intertwined in space and time fascinated me from the first moment.
that I understood that O Courel's reality was even more hidden than visible.
O Courel is an iceberg, like the local poet local poet Uxío Novoneyra.
The cinematic challenge of revealing something that is hidden yet struggles to remain present seemed to me a necessary process for reclaiming and regaining the power of our senses.
