- November 12, 2020 from 6:30 PM to 12 AM
Thursday 12 November, from 18.30 pm, CAMERA - Italian Centre for Photography - Turin, offers the free streaming viewing of the documentary The Vanishing Man (2015) by Erik van Empel, a real dive into the imaginary worlds of the artist Paolo Ventura, on display at CAMERA with “Carousel".
Paolo Ventura gave up a successful career as a fashion photographer because he felt the urge to tell through images some stories that had obsessed him since childhood. In particular, some of his grandmother's tales about events that occurred during the war. Ventura has a natural gift for storytelling, and like a true master illusionist, he makes things appear and disappear before our eyes, creating a carousel of imaginary characters and worlds: soldiers, clowns, tightrope walkers, automatons, magicians. Each of his images is a mysterious tale, a blend of atmospheres and details that invite us to closer observation.
In the movie The Vanising Man, Winner of the 2016 Prix Italia in the Performing Arts section, director Erik van Empel creates an intimate and complex portrait of this artist capable of creating imaginary universes by showing the audience some of the sets that appear in his works and taking them to his home-studio in Anghiari, Tuscany, where he works.
The film can only be enjoyed in streaming on the platform streeen.org
