FLAVIO SCIOLE': TO BE AND NOT TO BE AN ARTIST
Flavio Sciolè's long anti-artistic research in various disciplines, especially cinema and theatre, which began in the field of directing with the experimental short films of the early 2000s, places him as one of the most counter-trend voices in the Italian artistic field, to the point of the tautological oxymoron of making him one of the main anti-artists among contemporary Italian artists and filmmakers.
Aesthetics, a fundamental part of the artist's research, intertwines with ethics, and in a parallel manner the two instances explore the emotions and actions of contemporary man, exploring its dark sides, drowning in the meanders of the ego, in the dark recesses of the psyche.
Among the psychophysical areas explored in the artistic and life journey, self-harm, the disruption of established time, the antibody as an act of impediment, and the repetitive and erratic vocality play a key role. The paradigm of the entire journey is stuttered acting.
The impediment, the pseudo-theatrical error, is not overcome as the rule would indicate, but there the artist stops (and becomes anti-artist) and deliberately errs, stumbles, reiterates, and becomes a mistake, the mistake and therefore a man, since there is no perfect man. Remaining hindered in body and voice, Man remains there and exposes his own imperfection.
43 works created between 2000 and 2020, of highly variable duration, ranging from visual provocations lasting a few seconds to films lasting over an hour, tell the more than visual story of this artist who composes what, among many other ways, can also be seen as anti-artistic visual micropoems, or as situations of a more enlightened world, of which he himself is always, when there is a human presence in his films, the only human component.
The only rightly self-centered protagonist of his own human revolt finally manifested and recorded for the eye and mind of the beholder.
Streeen is pleased to collect one of the most complete series of works by Flavio Sciolè.
We offer you a series of short films that can currently only be seen with a subscription to the catalogue and some feature films that can also be seen individually by paying for them.
