Thursday 19 November, from 18.30 pm, CAMERA – Italian Centre for Photography, in collaboration with the Cinemambiente Festival, offers streaming of the documentary Gianni Berengo Gardin's Tale of Two Cities (2019) by Donna Serbe-Davis, recently presented on the online screens of environmental-themed festivals.

One of the most famous Italian photographers Gianni Berengo Gardin – of which CAMERA presented the exhibition “Gianni Berengo Gardin and Olivetti"together with the Olivetti Historical Archive Association, in collaboration with the "PA Garda" Civic Museum of Ivrea, the exhibition closed early due to the Covid emergency – led an intense civil battle to preserve the integrity of the Venetian lagoon. This battle gave rise to one of his most famous reportages. In Gardin's Tale of Two Cities (USA 2019 61'), directed by American filmmaker and art historian Donna Serbe-Davis, explores Venice, its history, its magnificence, and its fragility. Through the lens of Gianni Berengo Gardin, audiences are taken on an unusual journey that helps them rediscover the most intimate and authentic side of the lagoon city, which has been debased over time by uncontrolled mass tourism. Venetian by birth, Berengo Gardin recounts his own life and his sixty-year career through a series of evocative images. The last in the series are those that demonstrate the presence of large cruise ships in the lagoon and the resulting threat to the city's architectural heritage. A powerful and decisive message, capable of drawing widespread attention to the problem and contributing to the creation of a civil movement opposing unsustainable commercial policies.

To see for free the film will be enough to access the platform Streeen.org.

The film will be streaming from 18.30:24.00 PM to midnight on Thursday, November 19.
