Sciolè

Flavio Sciolè (1970). Actor, director, performer.

His work focuses on the decomposition of language, a disarticulation that intersects life and art in a continuous short circuit. Since the late 1980s, he has devoted himself to poetry, anti-theatrical research, anti-cinematic experimentation, and performance. A self-proclaimed anti-artist and resigned from humanity, he devotes himself to the artistic deconstruction of all classical art, finding his raison d'être in acts of defragmentation and destruction. An iconoclast by vocation, unwilling to compromise, he makes art as a demand, ethical art, his raison d'être.

Hundreds of video works have been screened, awarded, and featured at national and international festivals in Italy and around the world. Thousands of screenings have been held in Italy (Rai Uno, 52nd International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia 2007, MACRO, Romaeuropa) and internationally (France, Portugal, Morocco, Greece, Finland, Romania, USA, Lithuania, Macedonia, Argentina, England, Germany, Russia, etc.).

He has received awards, retrospectives (Casablanca, Rome, Turin, Berlin, London, New York), and written works. Main themes of cinematic action: anti-cinema, aesthetics, deviant use of light, direction, acting, and editing. With Teatro Ateo, the focus is on the reimagining, destruction, and disintegration of classical theater, operating on two levels: recitative and dramaturgical. Anti-theater (and anti-dramaturgy, anti-interpretation, anti-direction, anti-scenography, anti-lighting, etc.) is the key word.

The project's main stylistic features are monochromatic research (lighting, costumes), vocal deconstruction (the 'jammed acting' module is codified), work on icons and the jammed acting machine. It participates in national and international events and theatre seasons: the National Festival of Invisible Theatres, Villaggio Teatro, Provocazione Teatro, Teatro Furio Camillo, Rialtosantambrogio (Rome), Linguaggi National Festival of Performance, Teatro Neoeliseo (Rome), Festival Ubusettete (Rome), Mekanè (Rome).

As in theatre, performance develops vocality and the antibody, but naturally, everything isn't 'totally' predefined; ample leeway is left to instinct, to the urgency that guides every act. He has participated in, among other festivals, the Biennale Adriatica Arti Nuove, Time Is Love (London, UK), Untouchable (London, UK), Futuroma, Ar(t)cevia, and Corpo. His writings on anti-cinema have been published on various websites and magazines. He has curated festivals dedicated to experimental cinema (Atri, Pescara, Rome, Teramo) and contemporary art exhibitions.

As a photographer, he has participated in the 4th and 5th International Biennial of Graphics (2006 and 2008, Italy, Spain, and China), Comoedia Picta (La Spezia), and Artisti Per La Salute (Milan). As a film actor, he has starred in dozens of films, including 'Farina Stamen' (the first Iperfilm), 'Piano Sequenza' by Louis Nero, 'Scale' by Daniel Isabella, and 'La danza nera' by Mauro J. Capece. In recent years, he has preferred to focus on non-artistic or overly cinematic projects. Poetry: three collections have been published: 'Nature e Nulla' (Cultura D, 1993) and 'Nel decadere infranto ed altre poesie' (Sigismundus editrice, 2016), 'Nel disincanto asociale' (Maldoror Press, 2019); since the 1980s, his poems have been published in dozens of anthologies. He has published three volumes of his plays: Libero Teatro In Libero Stato (Holy Edit, 2017), Del Grottesco (Holy Edit, 2018), and Scomposizioni relazioneli (Aimagazinebooks, 2019). Also for Aimagazinebooks, he edited the volume 'The Adventures of Pinocchio', which also contains the text 'Non si detto le bugie' (The volume is sponsored by the Fondazione Nazionale Carlo Collodi). In 2016, his play 'Il Re è Pazzo' was translated and published in Mexico (Dramaturgia Italiana Contemporanea).

Aesthetics, a fundamental part of the artist's research, intertwines with ethics, and in parallel, the two explore the emotions and actions of contemporary man, exploring his dark sides, drowning in the depths of the ego, the dark recesses of the psyche. Among the psychophysical zones explored in the artistic and life journey, self-harm, the disruption of established time, the antibody as an act of impediment, and the vocality that repeats and errs play a key role. The paradigm of the entire journey is stuttered acting. The stutter, the pseudo-theatrical error, is not overcome as the rule would suggest, but there the artist stops (and becomes an anti-artist) and errs voluntarily, stumbles, reiterates, and becomes a mistake, the mistake and therefore a man, since there is no perfect man. Remaining stuttered in body and voice, Man remains there and exposes his own imperfection.
