MARCO DI CASTRI (1952)

At the beginning of the 80s, without ever abandoning his musical research, he began his career as a filmmaker, first with an ethnographic documentary (Pietro G.), and later with the film Ouverture (1984, with G. Barberi), which recounts the days preceding the opening of the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art, during which dozens of world-famous artists (including Kounellis, Beuys, Pistoletto, Buren) installed their works.

With the company Catalogue, founded together with Gianfranco Barberi, he produces films on artists and exhibitions, distributed and broadcast throughout the world.

In co-production with Éditions du Centre G. Pompidou, Cataloga created the first authorial video catalogue (Tinguely par Tinguely, 1988), with a VHS video cassette and a book of the same size entirely hand-drawn by Jean Tinguely.
The documentary won First Prize at the Asolo Art Film Festival. The video "Now I Know Snow" won the Silver Seagull at the Bellaria Independent Film Festival in 1986.

The film about Michelangelo Pistoletto (I Have a Mirror, You Have a Mirror) was presented in New York in 1988 as an integral part of Pistoletto's work in his retrospective exhibition at the PS1 gallery.

In 1989, together with Gianfranco Barberi, he made the film Magiciens de la Terre (52'), a chronicle of everything that happened in April 1989 in Paris in the spaces of the Grande Halle de la Villette and the Centre G. Pompidou, when the exhibition of the same name was set up which changed the world of contemporary art forever.

In 1994, the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris dedicated a month-long retrospective to all the films made by Catalogue.

The film about Giuseppe Penone Con l'orecchio all'albero (2010), was presented at the Louvre Museum in 2014.

From 1997 to 2017 he worked in pay TV where, starting in 2011 with Sky Arte, he created portraits of writers and artists including: Michael Cunningham, Jeremy Rifkin, Alfonso Cuarón, Kiki Smith, Francesco Clemente, Elizabeth Strout.

The feature film “L'Enigma di Jean Rouch a Torino - Cronaca di un film raté,” directed by Paolo Favaro and Daniele Pianciola and produced by Atacama Film, was presented in competition at the 74th Venice Film Festival and was broadcast by Sky Arte.
