I have always believed that cinema is something you do, not something you talk about.

Thus begins the volume by Carlo Lo Giudice Thoughts on Cinema, a collection of reflections developed over time by the author and offered to the reader in a refined selection.

Author of numerous works for the cinema, in the short biography on the back cover of his book, Carlo Lo Giudice mentions only two films: The Wild State e Our Father.

In addition to being the two works that have brought him the most recognition in terms of critics, reviews and film awards, these two works constitute a unique example of a cinema of human and social exploration, where the author's intimacy with the subjects filmed and documented becomes almost total and almost "carnal".

In Padre nostro, Carlo Lo Giudice immerses himself in the daily relationship of two sweaty and un-television men (…) Fragile/enormous documentary cinema, no famous biography, no dramatic plot.

A symphony of “useless” moments, no purpose other than an existence that seems to border on the biological.

And yet “Our Father,” the prayer/title of the film, is cinema-cinema that goes beyond self-talk, which dribbles it with refined and paused mastery, to reflect on commitment/resignation, enchantment/disenchantment, ancient/modern, intimate/collective.

A bundle of antinomies precipitated on earth from sidereal pasts, all there, present in today's Sicily

– Marco Bertozzi, Quaderni del CSCI Annual Magazine of Italian Cinema, No. 5, 2009
