Synopsis
Irene Dionisio (Turin, 1986) is a filmmaker and artist trained with the public art curatorial collective “a.title“, together with the documentary maker Daniele Segre and to the director Alina Marazzi.
His first documentary The Factory Is Full – A Tragicomedy in Eight Acts (2012) had its European premiere at Visions of the Real (2012) and subsequently to Taichung Film Festival in Taipei (2012).
With his second documentary Banks (2015) presented in the International Competition at Festival dei Popoli (2015) won the Solinas Award, Scam Award – Brouillon d'un rêve and Cinema Verità Jury Award in Iran.
His first feature film The last things (2017) had its premiere at Venice Film Festival in the section Critics' Week and subsequently in numerous international festivals. The film was nominated for a David di Donatello, for the Golden Globes for Best Debut and won a Silver ribbon for Best Screenplay.
In 2017 he wrote and directed the short film For your safety for the internationally distributed fashion house “Krizia”.
She was artistic director for the National Cinema Museum of Lovers, the historic LGBTQI festival, between 2017 and 2020.
In 2020 he curated the exhibition “Pestilent” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rivoli and the cultural program “Turin Solidarity” for the City of Turin.
In 2021, produced by Gucci and Rai Teche, he directed the documentary portrait “SUBSCRIPTION” (2021) by Achille Bonito Oliva who the following year invited her among the 70 artists of the international travelling exhibition “The great Italian vision” – Farnesina Collection.
In 2021 he won the Giuseppe Bertolucci Award for artistic innovation.
His works are exhibited in numerous galleries, museums and international institutions, such as Palazzo Grassi in Venice, the UN in Geneva and New York, the OCAT in Shanghai and many others.
He is currently preparing a fiction film and a feature-length documentary accompanied by a book essay.
