In the panorama of Kurdish music, Koma Berxwedan (Group Resistance) is one of the most interesting, innovative, experimental groups.

To a deep love for music research the group has always associated a strong political commitment. Some of its members have joined the PKK guerrillas in the mountains of Kurdistan.

Three of them died in combat. Some have been forced to live in exile and others continued to challenge the Turkish authorities by carrying out their work in Kurdistan.

Koma Berxwedan is what could be called an ‘open group’, i.e. a group in which either by choice and necessity, musicians become ‘interchangeable’, so to speak.

Koma Berxwedan is responsible for the deepest and most detailed research, preservation and spread of traditional Kurdish popular music. It’s success is also due to their representing, with the songs they have written, a sort of soundtrack of the political struggle and development of the Kurdish liberation movement.

Nel panorama della musica kurda, Koma Berxwedan (Gruppo Resistenza) è uno dei gruppi più interessanti, innovativi, sperimentali.

Ad un profondo amore per la ricerca musicale il gruppo ha sempre associato un forte impegno politico.

Alcuni dei suoi componenti si sono uniti alla guerriglia del PKK sulle montagne del Kurdistan.

Tre di loro sono morti in combattimento. Altri sono costretti a vivere in esilio Altri ancora continueano a sfidare le autorità turche lavorando in Kurdistan.

Koma Berxwedan è quello che si potrebbe defeinire un ‘gruppo aperto, cioè un gruppo in cui i musicisti, per scelta e per necessità, diventano per così dire intercambiabili.

A Koma Berxwedan si devono la ricerca e la diffusione di canzoni tradizionali popolari kurde ma sono loro anche canzoni di lotta più recento.
